Paul Hyun
Paul Hyun (cello) won our Competition in 2006, having begun playing cello at age nine and studying at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under Jean-Michael Fonteneau. He played with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra until his graduation from the S.F. Conservatory’s Pre-College program in 2005. Paul obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2010, where he studied with Stephen Gaber and played with the CIM Opera and Symphony Orchestras. Upon his return to the Bay Area, he has performed solo and chamber music at various venues and has been principal cellist with the San Francisco Korean Symphony and Chorus San Francisco since 2010. He teaches cello privately and also with the Silicon Valley Youth Symphony in San Jose, the Tri Valley Youth Orchestra in San Ramon and the United Music Academy in San Jose.
