Jonah Levy
Jonah Levy (trumpet), after winning the Khuner Concerto Competition in 2003, went east to advance his music education by attending Eastman School of Music in Rochester, where he received his Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance. He then returned to California for post-graduate studies at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia and The Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. He has participated in two of the L.A. area’s noted pre-professional orchestras (for musicians aged 15 to 25): principal trumpet in the American Youth Symphony and in the Debut Orchestra.
Jonah has been a mentor for the Young Musicians Foundation, which sponsors the Debut Orchestra. He also teaches inner-city 5th and 6th grade students in Inglewood and Koreatown as part of the Foundation’s Mentor Artists program. As a faculty member at the Kadima Conservatory of Music in Sherman Oaks, he taught trumpet to actress Elle Fanning for her role in the film “Ginger and Rosa” (2012). He maintains a studio for private lessons. His performance positions include Tucson Symphony (winning the audition for third trumpet in 2014) and guest principal trumpet in Orquesta Filarmonica de Jalisco in Guadalajara.
