Jia Yao

Jia Yao (violin), was 18 when she won the Khuner Concerto Competition in 1998. She had come to California from the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. As a member of the Beijing Youth Orchestra, she played “side by side” with the visiting Oakland Youth Orchestra when they toured China. Having studied violin since age five, she received a full scholarship to the San Domenico High School Virtuoso Program in San Anselmo. Jia subsequently graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College program and received her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2005. (Resume updated by Concerto Committee in 2016 from reliable online sources.)
